This interactive projection was part of Dublin’s Winter Lights 2024, lighting up the side of City Hall on Dame Street for several weeks in December. A collaboration between Lightscape and illustrator Holly Pereira, the project took inspiration from stained glass and the rhythm of city life—specifically the Dublin Bikes scheme.

Holly created a series of animated panels that responded in real time to the number of bikes in use at the nearby Dublin Bikes station. Each time a bike was removed, another piece of the animation was revealed—like a digital advent calendar opening day by day. We used the public Transport for Ireland API to monitor bike activity, converting this data into MIDI notes to trigger and control animation playback. The result was a gentle call to action, encouraging cycling through participation in the artwork.
